Oct 11 Action to Stop the War
We refuse to be a country at peace with being at war.
Join fellow activist citizens for a National Day of Anti-War Actions, and attend a major Chicago protest event.
SATURDAY OCT. 11TH, 2PM
March and Rally
Gather at Devon Ave. and Leavitt St.
(in the mini-mall)
Wars of aggression, codified torture, legalized warrantless wiretapping and massive spying, raids, round-ups and deportations of undocumented immigrants, attacks against women and gay peoples' human rights, moves toward theocracy, and now empire-driven financial collapse. All of these dramatic and fascistic changes, that have occurred over the past 8 years, will not be resolved through the presidential election in November.
Since October 11th, 2002, over 1 million Iraqis have been killed, over 4 million have been displaced, and there is still no end in sight. Both candidates pledge to "change the course" from the Bush years, yet both plan to keep tens of thousands of US troops in Iraq, and neither would stop contracts with Blackwater and other mercenary private contractors, that are now more numerous than US troops, --- in other words, neither advocates the change we actually need.
Both candidates approve illegal US bombing of Pakistan from across the border in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, US aerial bombardments are increasing in Afghanistan, leading to massacres of men, women and children (the August 2t attack killed over 90 villagers, mostly children). This is what the supposed "anti-war candidate", Obama, wants to do -- escalate a different war and "win" by re-deploying a portion of our troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.
WE CAN'T BE FOOLED, AND THIS TIME, WE WON'T BE OVERRULED!
With all that is at stake, it's critical to raise our voices now and speak out:
Both candidates threaten nuclear first strikes against Iran - even while Bush is conducting $400 million worth of covert attacks inside Iran's borders, right now, before he leaves office. The US is deploying an "anti-missile shield" in Poland, targeting Russia and deliberately inflaming tensions around the world.
STOP THE TORTURE. STOP THE WARS. IT'S UP TO THE PEOPLE TO TERMINATE THE BUSH PROGRAMS!
Your participation will help in making this a powerful day of protest and resistance is urgently needed. Contact us right away to get involved: chicago@worldcantwait.org. See www.Oct11.org for more about this national day of action.

Action July 9th at Chicago City Council:
Pass "No War on Iran " Resolution
Video and pictures: here.
The Chicago Chapter of the World Can't Wait - Drive Out the Bush Regime attended the July 9 meeting of the Chicago City Council to urge the Council to vote on and pass the "No War on Iran " resolution sponsored by Ald. Joe Moore and seven other courageous aldermen. Originally scheduled for a vote at the council's May meeting, it was deferred on a motion by Ald. Stone and Ald. Balcer.
Members of World Can't Wait, Vets for Peace, IVAW and other anti-war activists were at this morning's meeting, urging the original sponsors of the resolution to bring it to the floor, and urging the rest of the Council to vote for it. Copies of the resolution were also distributed to members of the media and the public in attendance. The resolution is more timely and urgent today than it was 2 months ago.

Will you be silent as your government steps up its pressure and war preparations against Iran - a Third World country half-way around the world? Bush: "all options are on the table."
Will you listen passively as all the candidates repeat Bush's lies and threats?
- McCain -
- "Bomb, bomb, bomb --- bomb,bomb Iran"
- Clinton -
- "we would be able to totally obliterate them"
- Obama -
- "I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Everything."

Bush Admits to Knowledge of Torture Authorization by Top Advisers - 4/12/2008.
In a stunning admission to ABC news Friday night, President Bush declared that he knew his top national security advisers discussed and approved specific details of the CIA's use of torture. Bush reportedly told ABC, "I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved." Bush also defended the use of waterboarding. (more...)
G.W. Bush Is a Criminal, Like His Dad - Robert Parry, January 31, 2008
Everybody in the room knew what the unspoken reality was, but nobody dared say it: George W. Bush authorized torture, which is a crime under U.S. and international law. (more...)
There are too many moments these days when we cannot recognize our country. Sunday was one of them, as we read the account in The Times of how men in some of the most trusted posts in the nation plotted to cover up the torture of prisoners by Central Intelligence Agency interrogators by destroying videotapes of their sickening behavior. It was impossible to see the founding principles of the greatest democracy in the contempt these men and their bosses showed for the Constitution, the rule of law and human decency. (more...)
- Looking at America, The New York Times, December 31, 2007
In times such as these, the American people must speak up and make their sentiments known, acting independently as THE PEOPLE. Let us not go down in history as infamously standing silent in the face of grave crimes the way the "Good Germans" allowed the Nazis to carry out their atrocities.
Wear orange - a ribbon, wristband, bandana, and so on - daily. Its wearing is a sign of solidarity with those our government imprisons and tortures. Its wearing means that you stand against torture and tyranny. The time for private grumbling is over. The time for speaking out and acting is here. (full comment here ...)
